Heavy duty roller blinds to leading university faculty to cut out heat gain and glare.
The Engineering centre is approximately 5,000 m² and contains design studios, administrative and academic offices for the School of Engineering. The key for the design was to deliver a high performance shading system for effective glare control and maximum heat reduction. The design was developed in close association with the client Brunel University and leading architectural practice RMJM.
To maximise social interaction, the four storeys of accommodation are centred around a multi-storey atrium linked by a central stair and exhibition spaces. The external materials are rendered block work and glass, while the structure is reinforced concrete. A key feature of the building is the maximisation of natural ventilation and the use of materials from sustainable sources. Labetts utilised the heavy duty R211 roller blind system in conjunction with F1200 Series fabric which gives a 68% solar heat reflection together with cutting out all glare. For internal privacy screens in the ground floor office space, V300 crank operated Venetian blinds were installed.
Our detailed attention ensured the correct specification was given at the initial stages of the project which guaranteed that Brunel University had a snag free project. The goal to maximise natural ventilation and the use of materials from sustainable sources, with long lasting blinds working in conjunction with natural ventilation to produce an environmentally friendly building has been achieved.
